50 members of "Arise, Armenia!" hold picket in Yerevan

In Yerevan, Square of Republic hosts a new protest action against the growth of electricity tariffs. The protest action has been organized by the civil initiative group "Arise, Armenia!" Police squads cordon off Square of Republic along its perimeter.

At present, according to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the picketers create a chaotic situation on the roadway of the streets adjacent to Square of Republic: they are crossing the road at pedestrian crossings in one direction, and then they are returning in the opposite direction. In their hands, the protestors are carrying the poster reading: "No increase in electricity tariffs!"

According to the organizers, the protest action involves about fifty people.

During 20 minutes, one of the streets was blocked by a huge traffic jam; however, then the police took control of the situation and cleared a part of the roadway for the traffic of vehicles.

Let us remind you that mass protests began in Yerevan after June 17, when the decision was announced to raise electricity tariffs from August 1 by 6.93 drams per 1 kW/h. The most large-scale protest action took place at Bagramyan Avenue. On July 16, the council of the initiative group "Arise, Armenia!" was formed. The initiative group demands complete cancellation of the decision to raise the price for electricity.
