Human rights defender Mikael Danielyan suddenly dies in Armenia

Today, in Yerevan, Mikael Danielyan, a well-known Armenian human rights defender, has suddenly died before his 57th birthday.

In 1997, Mikael Danielyan founded the Armenian Helsinki Association. In 2009, the human rights defender was awarded the "Defender of Freedom" prize by the US Embassy.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Levon Barsegyan, the leader of the Gyumri Club of Journalists "Asparez", Mikael Danielyan suffered from heart problems. Several years ago he underwent surgery of heart vascular stenting.
