Azerbaijan treats Sahakyan's visit to US as a threat to negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh

On March 14, Bako Sahakyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh, who stayed in Washington with a visit, handed over awards to a group of US congressmen and senators. Official Baku expressed its protest in connection with the above.

Since March 12, Bako Sahakyan stays in Washington on a working visit, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the press service for the President of Nagorno-Karabakh.

On March 14, Bako Sahakyan visited the US Congress, where he handed over the state awards of Nagorno-Karabakh to a group of US congressmen and senators, visited the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), and met the leaders of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" Central Committee of the Eastern United States.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has expressed a protest in connection with the Bako Sahakyan's visit to Washington. The Azerbaijani diplomats have noted that such actions call into question the impartiality of the US as an intermediary in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Azerbaijani MFA believes that such a step of the US causes serious damage to the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, contributes to the growth of tension in the region and undermines the measures aimed at ensuring peace and security in the region.
