Armenia: "Sasna Tsrer" supporters accuse judges of sabotage

The blocking of Arshakunyats Avenue in Yerevan was a warning to the new Armenian authorities on the readiness of "Sasna Tsrer" supporters to seek the release of all political prisoners in the country. This was stated by activists, who have treated the refusal to change the measure of freedom restraint of the members of the "Sasna Tsrer" armed detachment, who had captured the building of the police regiment in Yerevan, as sabotage, which should trigger protests against the new authorities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 11 the court refused to change the freedom restraint measure in respect of 11 "Sasna Tsrer" members; after that, their supporters blocked Arshakunyats Avenue for several hours.

The "Sasna Tsrer" armed detachment captured the building of the patrol-and-post police service in Yerevan on July 17, 2016, and held it until July 30, 2016.

"We must achieve the release of all political prisoners in Armenia," said Alek Enigomshyan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament".

"No one has the right to put people in jail before the verdict... If there were no "Sasna Tsrer", no velvet revolution would have taken place," Tamar Ovnanyan, an activist, has stated.

The court must change the freedom restraint measure of the arrested "Sasna Tsrer" members, as there is no reason to keep them in jail, Ervand Varosyan, an advocate, believes.
