Verdict to Kuban woman of financing terrorism upheld

The Russian Supreme Court (SC) has found no grounds to overturn the verdict to Olga Petrova, a resident of the Krasnodar Territory (also known as Kuban by the name of the main river), who was sentenced to seven years for financing terrorism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late 2021, Olga Petrova was sentenced to seven years in prison for financing terrorism. According to her advocate, serious mistakes were made during the investigation of the case.

Petrova and her defence insisted that she made the money transfers that figured in the case to a supplier of folk medicine goods. The case itself is based on the testimony of Sagid Kazimagomedov, convicted of involvement in terrorist activities, who had claimed that he was under pressure, but the court disregarded this fact, the advocate has pointed out.

The SC's panel of judges saw no contradictions in the case proofs and treated the witnesses' testimonies that Petrova was aware of terrorist nature of her actions, as well as the testimonies that Petrova had professed the ideas of radical Islam.
