Chechen authorities report about re-uniting of more than 2500 divorced couples

Special commissions created on the instructions of Ramzan Kadyrov reunited 2565 divorced couples in Chechnya, the “Grozny” ChGTRK (State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) reported.

On November 11, 2023, the authorities of Chechnya reported that since 2017, when commissions for resolving family conflicts were created, 2485 couples have been reunited in the republic.

Let us remind you that commissions for resolving family conflicts in Chechnya were created on the instructions of Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the republic. Family are being re-united under pressure, and such reunification often becomes traumatic for those who decide to divorce, analysts note.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in June 2020, human rights defenders called the situation with women’s rights in Northern Caucasus critical. Local traditions encourage violence against women in a family, and the authorities consider assault on the husband’s part to be the norm in a family, the human rights defenders suggest.

Earlier, in Chechnya, a public outcry was provoked by the death of Madina Umaeva from Gudermes. The woman died on June 12, 2020 in the house of her husband, who claimed that Madina died after falling down the stairs. Relatives of Madina Umaeva claims that quarrels often occurred between her and her husband.
