Family of the person who was beating to death in Dagestan confirmed interconfessional component of incident

According to the family of Marat Gadzhimuratovich Satabalov who died on 6 May 2010, Marat was beating to death in the Kazbekovsky district interior division by its officers. The beating could have dealt with interconfessional differences, the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" informs.

As it was earlier reported, Satalabov's wife Luiza Khaigaeva approached Russia's ombudsman Vladimir Lukin with a letter, asking for punishment of the officers from the Kazbekovsky district interior division who beat her husband to death.

Let us note that the three residents of Dagestan (Murad Churaev, Marat Hasanov and Marat Satabalov), having arrived for an outing, were detained by militiamen and subjected to severe beating. All these young men belonged to the Salafi community; some of them were with long beards.

On 7 May, the relatives and sympathizers blocked the Rostov-Baku highway near the village of Uzun-Otar. They demanded to punish Marat Satabalov's murders.

Marat Satabalov had a wife and two infants.
