"Oxfam": half of Georgian population possesses not enough money to pay for food

50% of the Georgia's population suffer from food availability problems: 61% of people cannot afford enough meat and fish products, 45% ‑ fruits and vegetables, and 20% ‑ dairy products. This was stated in the report prepared by the NGO "Oxfam".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late 2014, the national currency of Georgia was sharply devaluated. The depreciation of lari resulted in a rise in prices of imported goods, including food products.

In Georgia, only a third of women and children consume iron-rich meat products, and in total, only about a quarter of older people can afford meat products rich in vitamin A, the "Business Georgia" reports on June 16 with reference to the reports prepared by the "Oxfam".

14% of families of Georgia regularly borrow money to pay for food, and 50% of adolescents of 10-17 years old suffer from the deficiency of vitamins, proteins, and food products rich in iron, and that fact adversely affects their physical and mental development, contributes to development of anaemia and delays in growth.

In Georgia, the index of production is low, and prices of food products are very high, the "Oxfam" reports. In average, Georgian citizens spend on food products 54% of their income.

    The Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk has dismissed Yuri Mikhailov's lawsuit for compensation for the fact that after staying in jails in Novorossiysk and in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), he was infected with HIV and hepatitis.
