Exhibition of Alan gold in Vladikavkaz impresses visitors
More than 600 people have visited the exhibition of Alan gold jewellery, opened today at the National Museum of North Ossetia. The jewellery is shown for the first time.
The exhibition shows archaeological findings; and this is only a small part of the existing collection of gold jewellery, Mikhail Mamiev, the deputy director for development of the National Museum of North Ossetia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"The first large series of artefacts was found during the archaeological works performed by the Institute of History and Archaeology. This gold collection, which was replenished with time, is now stored at the Savings Bank. Unfortunately, we still have no conditions for storing and exhibiting precious metals; however, given the ongoing reconstruction of the museum, we hope that such conditions will be created," Mr Mamiev has added.
The golden collection mainly consists of women's jewellery. According to Mamiev, the earliest exhibits date back to the 1st century BC.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the museum that today it had over 600 visitors, including tourists.
"I learned about the exhibition by chance, but I'm very impressed and pleased," Dzerassa Kambolova, who came to the exhibition together with her young son, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
