Chechen girl from Iraq brought to her relatives

On February 7, a girl found in Iraq was brought by a plane to Grozny, the authorities of Chechnya report. The fate of her mother is unknown.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 5, it became known that a one-year-old girl was found in Iraq, three of whose brothers had already been returned to Chechnya.

The girl joined her aunt and grandmother, reported officials from the administration for the Chechen leader and the government of Chechnya.

"According to some reports, the girl's mother was seriously injured and sent her child to an Iraqi family. There was also a version that the girl's mother was imprisoned in Iraq, but we did not succeed in searching for her," an official has added.

According to him, the child's father fought for a unit of the 'Islamic State' (IS) banned in Russia and was killed. In 2014, a man took his wife and three sons from Chechnya to Turkey. From there, they moved to Syria and then to Iraq.

The official also reported that the working group on return of militants' wives and children from Syria and Iraq had recently found more than 60 Russian citizens staying in Iraqi camps. However, their return to the homeland is still in doubt.

Earlier, members of Chechen NGOs have noted that the return of women and children from the Middle East had been suspended. Meanwhile, residents of the Chechen Republic, whose relatives may stay in Syria or Iraq, do not lose hope that their daughters and grandchildren will return home.
