Natives of Chechnya detained in US for an attempt to smuggle firearms

On February 27, in the US state of Virginia, two local residents were arrested for suspicion of buying more than 100 items of firearms to be sent to Chechnya, the US Department of Justice reports.

According to the police version, 28-year-old Tengiz Sydykov and 27-year-old Eldar Rezvanov, residents of the city of Alexandria, purchased more than 100 items of disassembled firearms with the intention to send them to Chechnya without a licence.

"The men tried to disguise the firearm parts among cooking utensils," reported the US Department of Justice on its website on February 27.

The report emphasizes that Tengiz Sydykov and Eldar Rezvanov are natives of Chechnya and they are charged with arms smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle goods from the United States, fraud and money laundering. They face up to 20 years of imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the report does not specify who exactly was to be the final addressee of the arms delivery to Chechnya.
