ECtHR dismisses appeal filed by Azerbaijan in Ilgar Mamedov's case
The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) refused to consider an appeal filed by the Azerbaijani authorities against the verdict in the case against Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl). The ECtHR's decision came into force, and Ilgar Mamedov is to be released, state his advocates.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported Azerbaijan insists that the Strasbourg Court's decision does not contain any direct demand to release Ilgar Mamedov.
The refusal of the ECtHR's panel of five judges to accept the Azerbaijan's appeal for consideration means that the decision of the ECtHR on the Ilgar Mamedov's second appeal comes into force, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Rasul Jafarov, a public defender of Ilgar Mamedov, the chair of the Human Rights Club.
The Ilgar Mamedov's representatives voice their statements too early, said Chingiz Asgarov, the Azerbaijan's permanent representative to the ECtHR. According to him, the ECtHR's decision does not mention the need to release the complainant.
