Opening of a mountain resort means subbotniks for Chechen public employees

In Grozny, public employees and students reported about an unusually early start of the subbotnik (voluntary Saturday work) season. Officials explained the organization of mass participation of people in public works by preparing the capital of Chechnya for the opening of the "Veduchi" mountain resort.

"Usually, the subbotnik season began at our place in March-April, when the streets were cleared of dirt and debris accumulated during the winter. Now, the subbotniks were organized in the winter: we had the first one last Saturday, on January 20," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Musa, an employee of a Chechen public institution.

"Everything is melting now. The snow mixed with water is everywhere, and we have to clean the territories. However, we cannot fail to participate, since we are afraid of facing problems, and we are doing for free the work to be done by public utilities," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Leila, one of the local residents, attracted by the authorities to participate in subbotniks.

The Mayoralty of Grozny explained such an earlier start of the subbotnik season by the authorities' instructions.

"In the city, subbotniks were started in the end of last week at the direction of republic's leader Ramzan Kadyrov. The opening of the 'Veduchi' ski resort is scheduled for January 26. A large number of guests and tourists are expected to arrive in Grozny, so the task has been set to bring the city streets to order," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by a source from the city administration.
