Eight activists arrested for attacking policemen during protests in Ingushetia

A court in Nalchik has arrested eight activists suspected of using violence against state power officials and for calling to unrests during the recent protests in Ingushetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at least 12 activists detained in Ingushetia were brought to a temporary detention centre in Nalchik; three of them were arrested. Nine are still in custody within a criminal case.

On March 26, residents of Ingushetia, protesting against the fixing of a new border with Chechnya and demanding a referendum on this issue, extended their initially sanctioned action in Magas without an authorities' sanction. On the following day, there were clashes with law enforcers. According to investigators, ten policemen were injured. According to lawyers, if protesters render resistance to detention, their actions can be qualified as violence against state officials, which assumes up to 10 years in prison.

Apart from Bagaudin Khautiev, the Nalchik court has ruled to arrest Abo Dobriev, Gelaniy Khamkhoev, Magomed Khamkhoev, Ibragim Muzhakhoev, Adam Azhigov, Vakha Barakhoev and Amir Oskanov, the "Mediazona" reports referring to the advocate, Magomed Abubakarov.
