Over 1000 Azerbaijanis wait for departure to homeland near Kullar

Most Azerbaijani citizens awaiting departure to their homeland near the Dagestani village of Kullar live outside the official tent camp. On weekends and Monday, the maximum number of people is coming to Kullar, said Afig Allakhverdiev, the spokesman of the Azerbaijani national organization.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that camp residents are sent home in groups every week on Tuesdays.

A spontaneous camp is formed around the official camp near Kullar, where there are those who could not find place in tents. Besides, some Azerbaijani citizens are sheltered by local residents, and some of them live in hotels.

Now, over 800 Azerbaijani citizens live outside the official camp, but it is impossible to establish the exact number of inhabitants of the spontaneous camp, since people are constantly arriving at the border territory, Mr Allakhverdiev has stated.

There are fewer requests for help from camp residents, he has added, attributing this to the fact that people began to quickly leave the camp and did not wait for months as before.

Inhabitants of the camp cannot return home due to the quarantine introduced on the Russian-Azerbaijani border. Earlier, they complained about uncertainty about their return to homeland and poor living conditions.

So far, there is no information about plans to open the Russian-Azerbaijani border.
