Armenian soldier wounded in a shootout at border with Azerbaijan

An Armenian soldier was wounded as a result of a shelling attack from Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia reported. In turn, Azerbaijan accused Armenia of shelling attacks on three regions.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 16, the Armenian side accused Azerbaijan of shelling attacks on the Gegarkunik and Ararat Districts, as a result of which two soldiers were killed.

Starting from 1:45 p.m. Moscow time, Azerbaijani units have been firing at Armenian positions from firearms of various calibres in the direction of the village of Sotk in the area of Gegarkunik, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was informed at the press service for the Armenian MoD.

As a result of the shootout, one soldier was wounded, the spokesman for the Armenian MoD reported. “Nothing threatens his life. As a result of the retaliatory actions of the Armenian units, the enemy suffered losses, including one killed and one wounded soldiers,” the press officer for the Armenian MoD reported.

The Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan announced shelling attacks on positions from Armenia.

Today, the Armenian armed forces have fired at the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the Nakhichevan, Kelbadjar, and Gadabay directions. The enemy’s attack was suppressed by return fire, and there were no casualties among the personnel of the Azerbaijani army, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence reported.
