Volgograd townspeople lay flowers at monument to victims of political repressions

On October 30, residents of Volgograd, individually and in small groups, laid flowers at the monument to repressed people and read out their names.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Remembrance Day of Victims of Political Repressions has been marked in Russia on October 30 since 1991.

For the second year in a row, the Remembrance Day is held in Volgograd amid a ban on mass actions introduced in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. Since morning, Volgograd residents came to the foot of the monument to lay flowers.

Three members of the "Yabloko" Party laid flowers and read out the names of those executed in 1937-1938, Alexander Efimov, a member of the federal bureau and of the regional board bureau of the "Yabloko", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has emphasized the total character of Stalin's repressions. "You should understand that they were not selective repressions; it was like a running roller that ran over the whole country – a pre-planned and absolutely unmotivated terror. We need to talk about this, because right now for someone repressions have stepped into the background; others have forgotten about them," Mr Efimov has concluded.
