Political analysts deny threat to Russian-Turkish relations because of Dudaev Park
The Russian-Turkish relations are full of contradictions, but neither the opening of the Djokhar Dudaev Park nor Ramzan Kadyrov's indignation over the fact can aggravate them, the political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 10, the administration of the municipality of the city of Korfez in the Turkish Province of Kodjaeli solemnly opened a park named after the first president of Ichkeria, Djokhar Dudaev. Then, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, stated that the actions of Turkish authorities, which in this way support terrorists, threaten the Russian-Turkish diplomatic relations.
Djokhar Dudaev, an Aviation Major General, was in the lead of the movement for the exit of Chechnya from the Soviet Union, the first president of Ichkeria (1991-1996), the supreme commander in chief during the First Chechen War.
The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is an unrecognized separatist state entity created after the collapse of the USSR in a part of the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and liquidated by federal troops in 2000.
Such steps like the opening of Dudaev Park in Turkey are perceived negatively in Russia, Kamran Gasanov, an expert of the Russian International Affairs Council, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 22. However, in his opinion, Kadyrov's criticism of Turkish authorities will not affect the interstate relations.
"Yes, Kadyrov's criticism and his emotionality are understandable, since this concerns the region he leads, but I don't expect this to affect the interstate relations in any way. There are too many projects that link Russia and Turkey," Mr Gasanov believes.
Alexei Makarkin, the Deputy Director General of the Centre for Political Technologies, has noted that despite the painfulness not only for Chechnya, but for the entire Russia, of such symbolic acts as the opening of Djokhar Dudaev Park in Turkey, Russia treats such steps with restraint. In his opinion, the interstate relations are "rather complicated", especially on the issues of Syria, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh; however, in Russia, symbolic decisions are taken with caution.
