Georgian President pardons 15 prisoners

The pardoning act concerning 15 prisoners, including six citizens of Ukraine, was signed by the Georgian President, Salome Zurabishvili.

Ms Zurabishvili is regularly dates her pardoning decisions to memorable and festive dates. Thus, on April 7, 2020, she pardoned nine women with underage children on the occasion of the Annunciation; and on January 6 of the same year she pardoned five people on the occasion of Christmas. However, human rights defenders reproached the president that hundreds other convicts had been waiting for that amnesty.

Now, on the occasion of April 9 (the anniversary of Georgia's independence), the President of Georgia issued a pardoning act covering 15 convicts, the presidential administration has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on March 1, President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, recalled the Ambassador, Igor Dolgov, from Georgia because of Tbilisi's position regarding Russia's actions in Ukraine.
