Georgian NGOs force authorities to publish EU questions

Following the demands of Georgian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the opposition, the government decided to publish the questionnaire for obtaining the candidate status of the European Union (EU) on its website.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 11, the EU handed over to Georgia the above questionnaire; and one month was given to fill it in. Several NGOs demanded to make the process public.

On April 15, the Georgian govt made the EU questionnaire public, the "News-Georgia" reported on the same day.

"It has been decided to make this document public, and we'll ensure its availability to all interested parties as soon as possible," Ilya Darchiashvili, the head of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), said after a sitting of the governmental commission on EU integration. On April 15, the EU questionnaire was posted on the website of the Georgian government.

Minister Darchiashvili has added that Georgian authorities continue their consultations with partner countries to share their knowledge and experience in completing the questionnaire.
