Azerbaijan reports intense night shootout on Armenian border

Last night, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army were intensively shelled in the direction of the dwelling settlement of Zeilik in the Kelbadjar District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening, units of the Armenian Army shelled the Azerbaijani positions stationed in the Kelbadjar District, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The shelling was conducted from small firearms and heavy machine guns from the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces deployed near the village of Verkhhyaya Shordja in the Basarkechar District (the Vardenis District of the Gegarkunik Region of Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), the Azeri MoD has stated.

"The Azerbaijani party took adequate response measures to the shooting," the report said.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are periodically exchanging accusations of shelling on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Kelbadjar District. Thus, on May 12, the Azerbaijani MoD announced the shelling of the positions of its militaries near the villages of Azizli and Yukhary Shordja in the Kelbadjar District; the shelling was delivered from the border area of the Vardenis District. The Armenian MoD has refuted this information.
