Chechen gays Magamadov and Isaev brought to detention facilities

Brothers Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev, convicted on the charge of aiding and abetting a militant, are brought to places of serving their sentences. Their transfer from Grozny began at the beginning of the month.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 11, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya refused to commute the punishment of Salekh Magamadov and his brother Ismail Isaev.

On February 22, a court sentenced Salekh Magamadov to eight years and Ismail Isaev to six years of imprisonment, finding them guilty of aiding and abetting a militant from Aslan Byutukaev’s group. According to the investigators’ version, the brothers gave the militant bread, juice, tea, and chocolate. The brothers complained to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) that they were beaten after the detention and that they were forced to sign fabricated confessions.

Salekh Magamadov is brought to “Vladimirsky Central” prison-2, where he will serve part of the sentence. His brother Ismail Isaev was taken to the SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) in the Krasnodar Territory, the “OVD-Info”* reports with reference to the Crisis Group “SK SOS”.

Earlier, it became known that one of the brothers is a gay and the other is a transgender person. The brothers moved from Chechnya to Nizhny Novgorod because of torture after their detention in April 2020.

*The organization is included by decision of the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in the register of unregistered public associations performing the functions of a “foreign agent.”
