After conflict with Bzhaniya, Djansukh Adleiba goes on hunger strike

On July 22, in Freedom Square in Sukhumi, Djansukh Adleiba, an activist, began his hunger strike demanding lower fuel prices and to prevent the transfer of Abkhaz lands to Russia. Vadim Markholiya, a veteran of the 1992 war, has joined the protest action.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 13, it became known that Djansukh Adleiba went on a hunger strike in a Sukhumi square demanding from the government to decrease motor fuel prices. On June 28, Adleiba ended his hunger strike after the presidential administration promised to reduce fuel prices in Abkhazia within two weeks.

On July 21, the meeting of Aslan Bzhaniya, the President of Abkhazia, with villagers of Machara in the Gulripsh District ended ahead of schedule due to a conflict that broke out of activists with the president. The reason for the conflict was in an activist's question about the agreement signed at the beginning of the year on the transfer of the "Pitsunda" state dacha to Russia.

On July 22, Djansukh Adleiba began a hunger strike in protest against the fact that gasoline and diesel fuel prices in Abkhazia failed to become equal to those in Russia, and also in protest against the transfer of state dachas in Pitsunda to Russia.

"Today, July 22, we resume our hunger strike. Two more demands have been added to our last year's main demand to reduce fuel prices, namely: to alienating and selling our lands, objects and engineering facilities into ownership of unknown investors under the cover of the investment programme," Mr Adleiba has stated.

Another person, Vadim Markholiya, a veteran of the 1992 war, has joined the Djansukh Adleiba's hunger strike.
