Residents of Chechnya call to abandon practice of expensive gifts to groom's family
The practice of giving expensive presents by the bride to the groom's family is contrary to traditions; it should be cancelled, Instagram* users have pointed out in their comments to the video by the "Grozny" State TV Channel.
The message that residents of Chechnya "oppose the innovations in holding the wedding ceremony" was posted in the Instagram* account of the "Grozny" TV Channel on July 29. "Recently, the Chechen society has seen a trend of granting expensive gifts to the mother-in-law from the bride on the wedding day. Residents of Grozny have noted that such innovations have nothing to do with Chechen traditions and Adats, and also contradict the religion laws," the message says.
The posted video shows opinions of two people, including a young man, Magomed Inderbiev. "Initially […] as far as I know – and I know it very well – this was not the case. This innovation – regarding a fur coat and a crown – is only recently, within the last 3-4 years. I think this is wrong," the resident of Chechnya says in the video.
The authors of many comments have also spoken out against expensive gifts to the mother-in-law from the bride. "Dump these innovations in the form of cheap show-offs! Let everything be the way it was in the good old days!" the user ramzan.5o has written, in particular.
"Introduce a modest wedding ceremony, like our ancestors. After all, we had such beautiful customs from the very beginning," the user ameliia1135 has suggested.
