Lawyer of “Team Against Torture”* reports about death of Salman Tepsurkaev

Salman Tepsurkaev, a native of Chechnya, could not be helped, and it is known for sure about his death, Olga Sadovskaya, a lawyer of the “Team Against Torture”*, says. She notes that violations of human rights in Chechnya are growing and “splashing” over the entire territory of Russia.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in June 2021, investigators in Chechnya refused to recognize a wife of Salman Tepsurkaev as the victim. The human rights organization “Amnesty International” (AI) called on the Russian citizens to join the demand for the search for Salman Tepsurkaev.

In September 2020, a wide public outcry was provoked by a video in which naked Salman Tepsurkaev was sitting down on a bottle, explaining that he was doing that as punishment for cooperating with the “1Adat”** Telegram channel criticizing the Chechen authorities.

According to lawyer Olga Sadovskaya, the chain of events after Salman Tepsurkaev’s kidnapping has been restored.

“We tried to save him ... but, unfortunately, it didn’t help,” the lawyer said in an interview on the “Tell Gordeeva” YouTube channel.

According to Olga Sadovskaya, lawlessness in Chechnya is on the rise.

“At first it became possible to kidnap people in Chechnya, then to kidnap and kill those who help the kidnapped in Chechnya. Then it became possible to imprison human rights defenders by planting drugs on them, because they help people,” the lawyer noted.

Olga Sadovskaya has also added that human rights protection in Chechnya is life-threatening.

*The “Team Against Torture” (formerly the “Committee Against Torture”) was created by lawyers who previously worked for the “Committee Against Torture” (CaT), which was included in the register of foreign agents.

**In July 2021, the Zavodskoi Court of Grozny recognized a number of posts by the “1Adat” Telegram channel as extremist and also recognized the “1Adat” Movement’s Internet resources as prohibited, and in May 2022, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya recognized the “1Adat” Movement itself as an extremist organization and banned its activities in Russia.
