Verdict in torture case of Dagestani Kurashova disappoints social network users

The sentence of 3.5 years in prison for the law enforcers-figurants in the case of using violence against Yulduz Kurashova, a resident of Khasavyurt, is too lenient, social media users believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the prosecutor demanded to sentence the two law enforcers accused of torturing Yulduz Kurashova to 5.5 years in prison each, and to impose a suspended sentence on the third figurant, the woman who had falsified evidence. Some social media users have treated the sentences as too lenient and called to toughen them.

The case of abuse of powers with the use of violence was initiated after Kurashova complained of harsh detention and coercion to sign the confession of selling drugs. She also stated that a large amount of money had been taken from her in exchange for not opening a criminal case.

The court has found the policemen, Shamil Aliev and Ramazan Saipulaev, guilty of torturing Yulduz Kurashova and falsifying evidence in the case of illegal sale of a potent narcotic drug, the "Team against Torture" (TaT) has reported in its Telegram channel.

The court has also established that Maya Akhmedova, an operative agent, was involved in falsifying the evidence. She has been sentenced to one year of conditional imprisonment.

"This is the first conviction of law enforcers in our practice for using violence against detainees in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD)," the TaT has stated.
