Makhachkala resident fined for beating law enforcer up at protest action

A court has fined Isa Abdulaev, a resident of Makhachkala, by 50,000 roubles, finding him guilty of beating up a police officer during an anti-mobilization protest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 25 and 26, Makhachkala hosted large-scale anti-mobilization actions, which ended in mass detentions. Human rights defenders reported dozens of criminal cases initiated against protesters. By October 8, in Makhachkala, at least 148 people had been found guilty of violating the rules for holding public events.

The Sovietsky Court of Makhachkala has fined Isa Abdulaev, finding him guilty of using non-life threatening violence against a police officer during an action against mobilization, said Natella Agaeva, a lawyer from the "OVD-Info"* project.

According to investigators, on September 25, a police officer approached Abdulaev, who was near the Dagestan State Puppet Theatre, where the action was taking place, and demanded to stop "illegal actions." Then Abdulaev struck the police officer "at least two blows with his hand in the head area," as a result the latter received bruises.

Abdulaev has fully admitted his guilt. The court has treated the facts that he is raising two young children and his wife is pregnant as mitigating circumstances.
