In Quarter 4 of 2022, four people perished during armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the period from October 1 to December 31, 2022, at least four people perished in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: two in Chechnya and two in Kabardino-Balkaria. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

On November 21, an unknown man who attacked a GIBDD (traffic police) inspector with a knife and tried to escape with the latter's stolen pistol, was shot dead in Grozny. The inspector later died. This attack on a law enforcer in Chechnya was the first in more than 16 months. The previous similar incident occurred in Grozny on July 9, 2021.

On December 26, agents of the Russian FSB (Federal Security Service) found two armed men in a forest near Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, and demanded to surrender, but the men opened fire on them and were killed by return fire. The FSB informed that the casualties had been earlier convicted citizens of Russia, who "on instructions of Ukrainian special services" were preparing a terror act in the town of Chegem, and then planned to leave for Ukraine to participate in hostilities against Russian troops. Firearms, ammunition and an improvised explosive device (IED) were seized from the venue of the shootout. The criminal case is being investigated under the articles on illicit trafficking in weapons, explosive devices and encroachment on lives of law enforcers, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported.

The presented statistics cannot accurately reflect the precise number of victims. Not all data is included in the news bulletins. It is not always possible to check how true the statements of law enforcement bodies are; and new data on the events of the reporting period become known sometimes after the publication of statistics by the "Caucasian Knot".

Earlier, in Quarter 3 of 2022, there were no reports about any casualties, while during Quarter 4 of 2021, two people were killed.
