Authorities confirm deaths in Ukraine of over 1550 residents of Southern Russia

At least 1551 residents of Southern Russia, including 888 fighters from the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and 663 natives of the Southern Federal District (SFD), have perished in the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, local authorities have confirmed. Most of them are from Dagestan.

The number of NCFD residents (845) who perished during the year of hostilities in Ukraine is higher than the total number of law enforcers who perished during 11 years of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus (480 persons), the "Caucasian Knot" has counted.

The deaths of 888 natives of the NCFD were officially confirmed; the highest death toll (392 persons) is in Dagestan. The deaths of 154 natives of North Ossetia; of 122 fighters from the Stavropol Territory; 92 – from Chechnya; 85 – from Kabardino-Balkaria; 31 – from Ingushetia, and 12 – from Karachay-Cherkessia were also confirmed.

In the SFD, since the start of the SMO, authorities have reported the deaths of at least 663 people. In particular, the deaths of 261 natives of the Volgograd Region and of 160 natives of the Rostov Region were confirmed. In the Krasnodar Territory, there are 102 casualties in the SMO; in the Astrakhan Region – 97 persons; in Adygea – 27 persons, and in Kalmykia – 18 ones.

On February 15, Ramzan Kadyrov stated that heads of regions should not report the death toll in the SMO in Ukraine, but simply provide assistance to their families; he called on the regional authorities "not to comment on the losses."

Earlier, Caucasian experts pointed to the deficit of information on the casualties in Ukraine.
