Third case against Sochi woman, accused of discrediting Russian militaries, sent to court

The Sochi District Court has received the case initiated against a Ukrainian woman accused of discrediting the Russian Army. Earlier, she was arrested twice under administrative charges for her posts in the social network.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 19, the 31-year-old Svetlana Matukhnova, who lives in Sochi, was arrested for five days on charges of demonstrating symbols of extremist organizations. Also, a protocol was drawn up against her under the article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

Let us remind you that on April 24, a Sochi court arrested Svetlana for eight days, finding her guilty under the article "Inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity". The court concluded that the post by the citizen of Ukraine was "attributing negative features to one community –Russians, and positive features to another community – Ukrainians."

On April 29, a video was posted, in which Svetlana Matukhnova apologized to "the Russian people and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for publicly insulting them in a social network." The woman has clarified that she had been living in Sochi for six years and didn't treat "Russians as bad people."

The administrative responsibility for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces was introduced on March 4, 2022, after which residents of Russia, including those living in the Krasnodar Territory, began to be persecuted under this article. By October 2022, the Territory was in the top ten Russian regions, where most cases were opened under this article.
