Sozar Subari: justice works selectively in Georgia

National Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia Sozar Subari has named the decision of Zugdidi Court on the events in Zugdidi during the oppositional meeting on October 28 to be another shameful fact in the history of Georgian justice.

"The Georgian justice has once again demonstrated that it works under a selective principle: the person who has verbally offended two women-members of the party in power gets criminal punishment, while the originators of events in Zugdidi that have led to serious health damages are only administratively punished," the Ombudsman of Georgia has noted in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Deputies Bezhan Gunava, Bidzina Gudzhabidze, member of the NGO "Equality Institute" Lasha Chkhartishvili and Soso Robakidze, who suffered during the incident between the opposition and representatives of the government of Georgia, performed live at night at the "Imedi" (Hope) Georgian TV Company on October 29.

"We've already almost left Zugdidi, when we got a telephone call and had to get back. They attacked us and started beating openly, live on air of the "Imedi" TV Company. I personally do not know the attackers, but I am sure that they were under command of Mikhail Saakashvili. It was obviously a pre-planned action. The responsibility for this incident is completely on the authorities," Deputy Bezhan Gunava said.

"Our thanks to journalists, if not for them, we'd probably not be alive now. ...In our country all the decisions depend on one person - Saakashvili, and, certainly, beating of the Deputies is not an arbitrariness of policemen, they just fulfilled his order," Zviad Dzidziguri, Deputy of the oppositional parliamentary faction "Democratic Front", has stated.
