An employee of the Ministry of Education of Ingushetia was arrested in connection with a case of large-scale theft

A court in Ingushetia has remanded in custody a previously detained official suspected of fraud and abuse of power.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, on July 30, searches in the Ministry of Education and Science were conducted amid an investigation into a case of multi-million-dollar theft during preparation for the Unified State Exam. At the same time, the press service of the ministry denied the fact of the searches.

Today, the Magas District Court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention until September 30 for the suspect. "In the near future, the investigation plans to charge her with committing the incriminated acts," the regional Investigative Committee's investigative department said in a message on its Telegram channel.

According to the department, the official was detained on suspicion of embezzling compensation for teachers involved in preparing and conducting the Unified State Exam. She forged contracts and certificates of completion, on the basis of which more than 10.7 million rubles were transferred to the bank accounts of fictitious persons.

The case was opened under Part 4 of Article 159 (fraud committed on an especially large scale) and Part 1 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code (abuse of office). It should be noted that the first provision of the law provides for a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison, while the second provides for up to four years in prison.

In April, it was reported that the Magas District Court would consider a criminal case on the theft of 15.7 million rubles against the former director of the regional information processing center and the head of the accounting, control and reporting department of the republic's Ministry of Education and Science on charges of large-scale fraud, the regional prosecutor's office reported.

"According to the investigation, in 2018, the accused, in order to embezzle budget funds, organized the preparation of documents with false information about the work performed by 84 individuals to prepare for and conduct the Unified State Exam in the republic in 2016-2018," the release said. According to the department, in reality, these people were not teachers and did not participate in conducting the exams. They produced false documents with inflated information about the amount of compensation to be paid to 140 teaching staff for the work they had done to prepare for and conduct the Unified State Exam.
