In Chechnya, power agents release two out of four detained locals

In Chechnya, two of the four local residents detained on May 10 by power agents are still kept in custody, and two were set free. Law enforcement bodies of Chechnya have reported that these men - residents of Bachi-Yurt village, Kurchaloy District, were detained by militia for stealing horses.

"The information about alleged kidnapping on May 10 of four local residents in Bachi-Yurt by power agents has absolutely nothing to do with reality," a source in the Republic's MIA said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to a militia officer, Ali Ibriev, Salam Dzhabrailov, Umar-Hadji Edisultanov and Rukman Khizriev were detained by ROVD employees of the Shelkovskoy District on suspicion of stealing two horses. After investigatory actions, Dzhabrailov and Edisultanov were set free under recognizance not to leave. Khizriev and Ibriev are kept at the IVS; and now the measure of their freedom restriction is decided.

The source preferred not to answer the question why the special operation of detaining potential horse-stealers was conducted late at night and whether it was easier to summon these people to militia station (one of the detainees - Ibriev - is 60).

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
