Protesters against amendments to the law on NGOs to hold picket near the parliament of Azerbaijan

Despite refusal of the Mayoralty of Baku to sanction a picket of the "Committee in Defence of Civil Society" (CDCS) on June 19 in front of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, this coalition will still hold a protest action against restrictive amendments proposed to the law on nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

Gubad Ibadoglu, a spokesman of the CDCS, has stated today at the Forum of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan that the action will be held from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

According to his story, the action can be cancelled only in one case: if during Thursday official assurances arrive that the issue on the law on NGOs will be removed from the agenda of the parliament.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on Wednesday, June 17, the Mayoralty of the capital of Azerbaijan refused to sanction a picket of the coalition of NGOs named "Committee in defence of Civil Society" (CDCS) intended on June 19 in front of the country's National Assembly.

Anar Mamedli, a member of the Working Group of the CDCS, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Mayoralty gave no motives of the refusal.
