Law on freedom of information has been passed in Armenia
The National Assembly of Armenia unanimously passed the law on freedom of information on Tuesday. The parliament's press-cutting service has announced it.
According to information of the Open Society Institute, this law was prepared by a group of non-government organizations, the parliamentarians only amended it a little. Such adoption of a law is an infrequent one for Armenia. It is noteworthy that no power structure came out against the law.
The law on freedom of information has been passed in about 30 countries. It supposes maximum transparency of a government's activity, as well as keeping society abreast of executive power work. In accordance with the law, all information that is not classified must be open for people interested. Such a law is held to be one of the most efficient ways for struggle against corruption.
