Persons convicted for mass poisoning of children in Stavropol Krai appeal against sentence

The persons convicted for mass poisoning of children in the town of Lermontovo, Stavropol Krai, have filed a cassation appeal against the ruling of the first instance court, as reported by the Lermontov prosecutor's office.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told today at the Stavropol Krai department of internal affairs that the law enforcement bodies completed checking the investigation of causes of a mass incidence of dysentery among children in the Caucasus Mineralnye Vody.

"About 500 different expert evaluations have been conducted on the fact. No fraudulent intent has been revealed. We can only talk about failure to comply with sanitary and epidemiological norms and rules. That is to say, people suffering of dysentery working at the enterprise", explained the department representative.

Note that, previously, a special inter-departmental commission for investigating the causes of mass disease among children did not rule out the option of a competitive struggle, i.e. that the products made by "Vita" company, which was the main suspect, had been poisoned intentionally.

For reference, during the period from August to October 2007, mass incidence of gastro-intestinal poisoning among children was registered in the towns of Blagodarny, Lermontovo and Kislovodsk. According to the information of the governor's press-service, 580 victims addressed the hospitals of Stavropol Krai at the time, and most of them were diagnosed dysentery.
