Georgia to watch foreign films only in the Georgian language

On July 31, the parliament of Georgia passed amendments to the law "On Broadcasting", according to which all foreign-made films should be dubbed into Georgian or provided with captions in this language prior to demonstration in the country; TV serials can be put on air only after translation into the state language.

According to the amendments, films already dubbed into Russian are forbidden in the country. The "News-Georgia" writes that the amendments will come into force since September 1, 2009.

The order and periodicity of broadcasting films with captions in Georgian will be defined by the National Commission for Communications. The "NEWSru.com" reports that the Commission is authorized, by its statement, to oblige the owners of licenses to show foreign films in foreign languages with mandatory captions in Georgian.
