Representative of СЕ's Secretary General in Azerbaijan visits "Tolyshi Sado" editor-in-chief in prison

Last Friday, August 7, Veronica Kotek, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE) in Azerbaijan, visited Novruzali Mamedov, a linguist, head of the Talysh Cultural Centre and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh) in the hospital of the Penitentiary System.

Mr Mamedov was placed to this medical establishment in the end of July from Colony No. 15, where he is serving his term for treason.

As reported in the statement of the Committee in Defence of N. Mamedov's Rights, that has arrived to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Ms Kotek spoke with the hospital managers and attending physicians who estimated Mamedov's condition as of medium gravity.

However, the hospital bosses rejected her offer to invite a doctor from Europe for consultations as to Mamedov's case.

The PR division of the Penitentiary System of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan answered to the request to comment on the offer of the CE's representative to invite a doctor from Europe that "there is no need to do it, as all the prisoners in need of treatment get all the required care."
