Chechen MIA gives the name of suspected militant killed in Argun

According to power agents, the suspected member of IAFs (illegal armed formations) who was killed on August 11 in the city of Argun was a fighter of the grouping that acted in the Nozhay-Yurt and Gudermes Districts of the republic. His person is now known - Beslan Dagabaev.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an officer of the Chechen militia that information about a potential militant who moved in a VAZ-21099 car was received by militiamen through their operative channels. "An ambush was organized in the place of possible appearance of the militant; however, when militiamen tried to stop the car, Dagabaev opened fire from a pistol and tried to escape at high speed. He was liquidated by response fire. A pistol and a self-made grenade, known as 'Khattabka', were found in the car," said the officer.

Meanwhile, yesterday one of local TV channels showed a report, in which militant's father, standing over his son's body, was damning him and thanking militiamen for "having stopped" him. "Be damned he and those who directed him to this," said Dagabaev's father pointing to his son's body. "All my life I worked for the authority, lived on my salary and always was afraid of one thing - shame. He has dishonoured me before the authorities."

Having thanked militiamen for killing his son, the elderly man emphasized that that anyone who stands against the authority should be liquidated. Then, one of militia bosses told Dagabaev-elder that he could take the body, but warned him that no commemoration over the casualty should be held and forbade burying him in the cemetery.

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan

Ayats (verses) of the Koran, references to which were left by attackers at a synagogue in Derbent, are interpreted by the extremists to justify their confrontation with Jews and Christians, Leonid Syukiyainen and Dmitry Mikulsky point out. The experts suggest that the date of the attack on the Orthodox temple was chosen by the militants because of the Christian holiday celebrated on that day.
