Western diplomats are concerned of the fate of arrested Azerbaijani bloggers and head of Talysh Cultural Centre
The fate of the arrested young bloggers and heavily sick prisoner Novruzali Mamedov is still in the focus of attention of the international community. In these last days, these issues were discussed during the meetings of members of western diplomatic missions with the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson Elmira Suleimanova.
In particular, on August 11, the Ombudsperson received officials from embassies of Belgium and Hungary - Peter Booms, Tibor Szilagie and Zoltan Batch, and head of the European Commission's mission in Baku Alan Vaddams, and on August 12 - Joan Gadson, political adviser of the US embassy.
Along with acquaintance with the activities of the institution of Ombudsperson in Azerbaijan, the western diplomats also asked questions about the fate of arrested young bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Gadjizade and the health condition of Novruzali Mamedov, head of the Talysh Cultural Centre and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh), who is now in the medical establishment of the Penitentiary Service.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Ombudsperson's office that Ms Suleimanova "gave detailed information to the visitors on the measures taken in Azerbaijan in the area of human rights."
Touching on the case of young bloggers, Ms Ombudsperson said that employees of her office repeatedly visited them in SIZO (investigatory prison), and she had personally contacted the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Public Prosecutor asking them to take under their personal control "the objectivity of the investigation of this case, check up the legality of detention and to consider a possibility of a pre-trial settlement through reconciliation."
