Rostov Region: miners-pensioners prepare to picket Zverevo administration

The miners-pensioners detained yesterday by militiamen near Federal Highway No. 4 in the Rostov Region, are at large and plan to picket the building of the administration of the city of Zverevo. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Valery Dyakonov, a deputy of the municipal duma of Zverevo.

According to the deputy, on September 9 about 50 miners-pensioners stretched a 30-meter-long poster saying "Pensioners-miners ask President's defence" near the Federal Highway.

"The passing cars gave signals in support of our actions. However, some 20 minutes after the start of the action, militiamen arrived in eight UAZ cars. They began pushing elderly women and men into the bus. I managed to take four miners' widows to the city in my car; about 10 persons could run away. Still, 30 pensioners were detained and brought to the police station, in spite of the fact that they made no attempts to block the highway. Moreover, yesterday the meeting of protesters made a decision not to do it," said Valery Dyakonov.

According to his story, miners-pensioners plan to hold, tomorrow, on September 11, a picket at the local administration and show their readiness to defend their rights to the end.
