Sausoruko offered as symbol of Sochi Olympiad
The participants of the 4th All-Russian Forum of Young Parliamentarians, which was held on October 22-26 in Anapa, have addressed the Russian authorities and the Organizing Committee "Sochi-2014" with an offer to make the image of Sausoruko - the main hero of the Circassian epos "Narts" - the symbol of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games.
"The heroic epos about Narts has its roots in deep antiquity and is an outstanding folklore monument of the world arts culture. The legends of the Narts' epos convey the heroic spirit of Caucasian natives, the beauty of their relations, generosity, unselfishness and hospitality. Sausoruko, the main hero of the epos, performs many heroic feats for the sake of well-being and happiness of the people, the main one being in return of fire to them," runs the appeal of the forum delegates.
By its artistic value, the "Narts" epos is equal to such world-famous works of oral folk creativity like "Iliad", "Odyssey" and "Mahabharata". The UNESCO announced the year 2000 to be the year of the "Narts" epos.
