In 2009, Chechnya saw migrants' growth

The number of migrant present in the territory of Chechnya grew last year by three thousand persons and now makes 8682 persons. The data was presented by the Department for Chechnya of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia. Most of the migrants originate from CIS countries.

"In 2009, the number of foreign citizens, temporally registered by the local FMS made 8682 persons, that is, three thousand more than last year. Mostly, they come from former USSR republics - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia and Middle Asia. There are also citizens of China and Vietnam," said an official of the FMS Department for Chechnya.

Last year, FMS employees and law enforcers held about 900 preventive actions aimed to reveal illegal migrants. In total, in the course of operations "Illegal Migrant", "Border" and "Outlaw-2009" they checked 8500 various objects and imposed over half a million of fines on migrants for breaking the migratory legislation.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt in law enforcement bodies of Chechnya that in January-December 2009, 3500 administrative offences in the sphere of migration were registered in the territory of the republic.
