Unique zoo to be built in Azerbaijan

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has defined the winner of the tender, held on designing, building and further development of the Zoological Park, intended to house endangered animal species. The German-Turkish company will build a zoo in the territory of more than 200 hectares.

The order "On Creation of Zoological Park in the Country" was signed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev on December 26, 2008. The zoo will have no prototypes in the world. People will have a chance to get acquainted with the fauna and flora not only of Azerbaijan, but of the whole world, as the "Vesti.аz" website writes.

"I think in some 2-3 years we'll have such most up-to-date object," said Mr Bagirov, Minister of Ecology of Azerbaijan. "The Near East and Central Asia have no prototypes of this sort of a specialized nature park."

According to his story, numerous appeals were addressed to Azerbaijani authorities about liquidation of the present Baku zoo, which is "a prison for animals", as the "Bakililar.az" writes.
