Forbidden names to appear in Azerbaijan

This year the country will compile a list of permitted, non-recommended and forbidden names.

Rasim Aliguliev, Director of the Institute of Information Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijani (NASA), said that now a special commission is studying, under the request of the Ministry of Justice, the meanings of different names.

"At the moment, under the guideline of the Ministry of Justice, the NASA's commission of scientists is studying the meanings of the names used by citizens of the country. A list of them will be presented, according to the mechanism of 'traffic lights', to the Ministry of Justice," Mr Aliguliev has announced.

According to his story the above mechanism assumes that the names corresponding to Azerbaijani national, cultural and ideological values will be included into the 'green list', and awarding these names will face no restrictions.

The second category of names will be included into the "yellow list" of names, which are undesirable, non-recommended or causing sneers and having ugly sounding in other languages.

The names of the third category will be on the "red list", and awarding these names will be prohibited. These are the names of the persons who committed aggression against the Azerbaijani people and the names with offensive meanings in the Azerbaijani language.

"Any name beyond the list will be sent to the respective NASA's commission, and after it makes its opinion, the awarding of the name will be sanctioned," the IA "Trend" quotes Mr Aliguliev as saying.

It is planned to oblige parents already in 2010 to be guided by this list, when they give names to their newborns, the "Argumenty.Ru" writes.
