Vladikavkaz residents lay an action against "Electrozinc"

In the capital of North Ossetia the initiative group continues its judicial efforts to stop the "Electrozinc" factory. On July 19, a statement of claim was filed by residents of the sanitary zone around the factory, as reported by Zalina Kairova, leader of the initiative group named "Electrozinc - what do we breath in?"

"On July 19, we laid an action on behalf of the residents of the sanitary zone surrounding the factory (they are the first to suffer from chemical emissions) against the decision of the 16th Arbitration Court, which cancelled the decision of the Vladikavkaz Court prescribing to close the 'Electrozinc' factory," said Kairova.

"At first, we wanted to appeal against the actions of the arbitration court, but we were rejected this right," she continued. "Then, we addressed the local branch of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"; they advised us to lodge a new statement of claim. So far, we don't know what else to undertake."

The Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of North Ossetia has admitted that there was another emission from the factory; however, experts there believe that it was no health hazard for citizens, since according to the MfE, the level of harmful substances in the air did not exceed the norms.
