Shamba: quick solution of Russians' property problems in Abkhazia is impossible

Abkhazia does not refuse to consider the issues of Russian citizens' property, said Prime Minister of the republic Sergey Shamba.

Earlier, Russian mass media had reported with reference to the Premier that "Abkhazia rejects the concept of protecting Russians' property rights."

"During the war many houses were destroyed. The people who remained without roof over their head had to move into empty houses. We're studying the issues raised recently about return of some occupied houses and apartments to former owners. They can't be solved overnight, as not only Russians, but many Georgian refugees who took part in the war have Russian citizenship. There are people, for whom the road to Abkhazia is closed whatsoever," Mr Shamba told journalists today.

"Our law enforcement bodies, Public Prosecutor's Office and Supreme Court are studying all these materials. When they're through with it, a mixed Russian-Abkhazian commission will be setup to address property rights violations with all the legally valid materials in hand," said the Premier.
