Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk
Town in Dagestan, republican subordination, 312 km north-west of Makhachkala. Located in the Terek-Kuma Lowland, in the north-west of the Nogay Steppe on the Sukhaya Kuma River, periodically drying up, 95 km of the railway station of Kochubey, in the Astrakhan - Kizlyar line. Connected by highways to the settlement of Kochubey in the east and the town of Neftekumsk, Stavropol kray (region), in the west. Population (1992 est.) 12.5 thousand, (1979 est.) 10.4 thousand.
Built in 1988 on the basis of a settlement for oil and gas production workers. Oil and gas are produced in the environs of the town (PО Dagneft).
