After April 2011, Chechen leader will be named "Head of the Republic"
According to Dukvakha Abdurakhmanov, speaker of Chechen parliament, the post of the president of Chechnya will be officially renamed only next April, after expiry of Ramzan Kadyrov's term.
Let us remind you that in August this year Kadyrov asked the parliament to invent a new name for his post, arguing that Russia should have only one president. On September 2, the parliament of the republic decided to name the region leader "Head of the Republic".
"The parliament has amended the Constitution of Chechnya by changing the name of the supreme official post, but we did not appoint the person to this post. Russian President had approved Ramzan Kadyrov in the post of Chechen President; the term of his powers expires next April; and only after the new approval of the President of Chechnya the post will be officially renamed," Mr Abdurakhmanov told journalists on September 4.
In the meantime, some experts think that the renaming initiative was born in Moscow, while others believe that the incumbent leader wanted to strengthen his positions, because the term of his powers will expire in six months.
