U.S. Government's humanitarian program in Armenia to clear territory of mines

The U.S. Government jointly with the Armenian Ministry of Defense is carrying out a humanitarian program in Armenia to clear the county's territory of mines. American specialists have done researches and ascertained that 11,108 hectares remain mined in Armenia.

The U.S. Government has spent 8.5 million dollars on this program, said U.S. acting ambassador to Armenia Vivian Walker. The Humanitarian Center for Mine Clearing has been created in Echmiadzin within the Armenian-American cooperation. Specialists of the center have neutralized 200 mines since the beginning of this year. There are about 80 thousands such mines, according to American specialists.

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
